“Touch: December 6, 1998”

On December 6, 1989, 14 women students at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal were systematically killed by a lone gunman. this is the worst single-day massacre in Canadian history. full story

“Touch” is a memorial to these women killed which consists of 14 rings contained in a box. The rings, which symbolize eternity, are individually 'hung' from the wall by string tied to a nail. The viewer is invited, through the implication of the title “Touch”, to try on the rings and feel their slight differences in size. By trying on the rings, the viewer shifts her/his personal space to become physically attached to the wall of the gallery, while at the same time experiencing the absence of the individual.

The text on the box reads, "To remember, I must tie, around my finger, the string".
